Call for Submissions: Research Project #21

We are now seeking submissions for Research Project #21, which will take place Sunday, June 23, 2019. The deadline to submit is Monday, June 10, 2019.

Cherrie Yu and collaborator performing at RP15, taken by Nora Sharp.

Research Project (RP) is a quarterly works-in-progress series that offers a community forum for experimentation, emerging ideas, and artist-to-peer support. RP brings together movement-based artists in the midst of their creative development to show work, share process, give & receive response, and chew the fat. Performances usually run about an hour with facilitated conversation of about an hour to follow.

Nora Sharp has facilitated Research Project since 2014, in collaboration with Aurora Tabar since 2017. OuterSpace Studios in Wicker Park has been RP’s home since the event was founded by Greer Dworman in 2013, initially supported by The Space Movement Project and now with the continued generous support of The Watering Can Dance/Jessica Marasa and the other wonderful people who run OuterSpace.

Special notes for RP#21 on June 23!

For RP#21, we are conscious both of the special number we’ve hit as well as the timeliness of Pride. As such – and as a queer founded, queer run, and queer centering event – for this particular round of RP we particularly encourage works that consider or engage experiences of resistance, queer selfhood, transformative joy, and other topics that Pride and adulthood specifically call to mind.

Call for Submissions: Details

Proposals to show work at RP are accepted on an ongoing basis, with the following details and deadlines for the coming year:

RP 21, June 23, 2019: proposals accepted until June 10

If you’re interested in showing work, please send along the following:

  1. A brief description of the work you wish to share. Where you are in your process and what you hope to gain from this in-progress opportunity?
  2. A link to a brief work sample reflecting your current or past work.
  3. The length of time that would best serve your needs in showing. We seek a balance that works for all present. Most nights feature 3-4 performers over the course of an hour, with an average individual performance length of around 10 minutes.
  4. Your technical needs (i.e. sound, projector, etc). Please know that OuterSpace is a low-tech venue with simple lighting and sound amplification. If you have additional technical needs we may ask you to simplify or provide your own equipment/technician.

Artists for RP#21 will be notified by June 14 and will present their work on June 23 at OuterSpace Studios, 1474 N. Milwaukee, 3rd Floor, Chicago. This is a 3rd floor walkup and we regret that it is not an accessible space at this time.
